About Tess

About Tess

3.5 years got her here, and she was ready to give up.

Then 30 days of data changed everything.

Tess did everything right. Strength training and nutrition, for years. She still felt off. Then we stopped guessing and tested.

The Plateau

Years of effort. Still fighting her body.

As her coach, I've been working with Tess since my Happy New You Challenge in 2023. Over the last several years, we've navigated a lot together, including fat loss goals, pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and all the ups and downs that life can bring.

Throughout our time working together, one of the biggest struggles Tess continued to face was intense cravings and an overwhelming amount of food noise. Tracking macros often felt like a constant battle. Some weeks were great, while others felt like she was fighting her body every step of the way. She found herself thinking about food constantly, struggling with strong sugar cravings, feeling exhausted, lacking motivation, and becoming increasingly frustrated with how she felt.

The Turning Point

After 3+ years, and with Tess still feeling off, we asked a bigger question.

At one point, Tess decided to challenge herself to a month completely free of added sugar. During that time, she noticed a significant shift in how she felt physically and mentally. That experience led us to ask a bigger question: Was there something deeper contributing to these symptoms?

Rather than continuing to guess or create more food stress through trial and error, we decided to test.

We started with two foundational assessments: the GI-MAP and Food Sensitivity Test.

What The Data Revealed

Suddenly, the symptoms made sense.

The Food Sensivity Test through MRT evaluates inflammatory responses to 176 foods and chemicals. The results were incredibly eye-opening because many of the foods that came back as reactive were foods Tess was eating on a regular basis. These weren't necessarily processed foods or foods she considered unhealthy. Many were whole foods that most people would assume are perfectly fine.

One thing that's important to understand is that food sensitivities identified on MRT testing are not intended to become permanent restrictions. Instead, they give us information. For Tess, we created a 90-day protocol where we temporarily removed foods that showed higher inflammatory responses. The goal is to reduce stress on the body, support healing, and eventually reintroduce foods strategically to determine what her body can tolerate once her gut health has improved.

The GI-MAP provided even more pieces of the puzzle. Through this testing, we found:

Significant dysbiosis

Her results revealed significant dysbiosis, meaning the balance of bacteria within her gut microbiome was not where we wanted it to be. Several beneficial bacterial populations were extremely low, including important keystone bacteria that play a major role in digestion, gut health, and overall resilience within the microbiome.

Inflammatory bacteria and a parasite

We also identified several inflammatory bacteria that warranted attention, along with a parasite that needed to be addressed as part of her protocol.

Elevated Secretory IgA

Secretory IgA serves as one of the body's primary immune defenses within the digestive tract. Tess's levels were significantly elevated, suggesting her immune system was working overtime and responding to ongoing stressors within the gut environment.

Data, not willpower

Instead of simply viewing her challenges as a lack of motivation or willpower, we could see objective data showing that her body was dealing with multiple underlying stressors that may have been contributing to inflammation, cravings, fatigue, and difficulty feeling her best.

The Protocol

Built for her body, not a generic plan.

Based on what we learned through her labs, I was able to help give her a protocol that would aim to fix the root cause of her symptoms. Alongside continued strength training, we started modifying her day to day diet.

By removing foods that were creating inflammatory responses for her individual body and implementing a protocol of supplements designed to support her microbiome, we are helping create an environment where her body can function more efficiently and effectively. The targeted supplements I built into Tess's full protocol, alongside her video walkthrough and food plan, are also available in our Fullscript shop.

30 Days In

The changes have been remarkable.

Today, we are approximately a third of the way through her 90-day protocol, and the changes have been remarkable.

The biggest transformation we're seeing so far isn't just on the scale. It's the visible reduction in inflammation, improvements in how she feels day-to-day, and the progress that comes from finally addressing some of the root contributors rather than simply chasing symptoms.

"I started working with Coach Shae, and to say it wasn't easy is an understatement. I was not and have not been perfect throughout my journey but with the encouragement of Coach Shae and the community, I never gave up.
Coach Shae is incredible! The accountability along with the encouragement keeps me going! It's also SO helpful to have someone to go to whenever I had a question about a workout, or nutrition, or both."
